Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream is a game that just released this Thursday on April 16 on both the Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo Switch 2. Tomodachi Life is a unique game you might not find anywhere else, and if you aren’t sure if you want to buy, there’s a demo of the game out to preview it.
If you like games like Animal Crossing, chances are you’ll like Tomodachi Life, though it’s more focused on the social aspect of gaming than Animal Crossing is. In Tomodachi Life, you can create a Mii, which can be anyone; yourself, a friend, a character, anyone you want. That Mii will live on your island and interact with the world around it, making friends, and maybe even falling in love.
When you create Mii, you can fully customize it unlike ever before. Unlike past games that included Miis, in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, you can draw every feature of their face if you so wish. This feature can lead to some beautiful creations, but can also lead to some less-than-appropriate looking Miis, which is why Nintendo restricted the ability to export photos or videos of the game taken from your Nintendo Switch to other devices (though, there’s no way to stop people from just taking a picture of their screen, or using a third party recording device.
The original Tomodachi Life game came out on April 18, 2013, a sequel to the Japan-exclusive game Tomodachi Collection that was released in 2009. Tomodachi life was one of Nintendo’s best-selling games for the 3DS, so the sequel was highly anticipated after thirteen years of waiting.
When the game released its first trailer, excitement quickly spread. Expectations were high after 13 long years, and it seemed like their expectations were going to be met. Along with the features from the previous installments, the new game would have features like allowing your Miis to walk outside, letting them have pets, customising the outdoors and even the way the houses look, and many other features that had players ecstatic.
This title is a little cheaper than some other Nintendo titles, being $60 instead of the newer $70 or more price for more recent games. Lots of people have pre-ordered the game, and if the demo tells us anything, the game won’t be disappointing for those who want it.
While Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream isn’t everyone’s kind of game, it’s the dream for those who have been waiting, and even those who are new to the game. Not many games fulfill the “life simulator” niche as well as this title does, so it’s no surprise that thousands are on the edge of their seats excited for the game’s release.
