Liberty played the final game of the quarterfinals against St. Dominic on Monday night. Liberty won the first game of the round, but St. Dominic took the second game setting up a dramatic tie-breaking game in which the Eagles prevailed 1-0.
In the first game, Liberty got the only goal of the opening period. At 11:21 Garrett Katz (10) got the goal, with Carson Brassel (11) and Zach Pruss (11) getting the assists. At 2:03, Reid Wells (9) got a 2-minute minor penalty for hooking.
In the second period, St. Dominic was the only team to score. They got goals at 12:35 and 3:41. There were no penalties this period.
“We had some struggles in the first half of the game, and we came back and gave a come back,” Nicholas Kuhn (10) said.
In the third period, St. Dominic got a 2-minute minor penalty for roughing at 10:18. At 7:54, St. Dominic scored the game-winning goal. At 6:41, Kuhn got Liberty’s second and final goal of the game, assisted by Quinn Scrogin (9). At 4:35, Katz got a 2-minute minor for tripping.

Although St. Dominic won the game, the night wasn’t over. Since this was the deciding game for who moves on, one team had to come away with more points. With Liberty winning game one, and St. Dominic winning game two, the teams had to play a 10-minute minigame to decide who would move on.
“I feel like the team battled back from adversity, you know, losing that first game and going into that minigame was pretty cool,” captain Lucas Kempf (11) said.
At 9:03 in the minigame, Kempf got an unassisted goal for Liberty. St. Dominic didn’t scored in the minigame, which got Liberty the extra point.
Since Liberty got the points, they move on and are facing John Burroughs next in the semifinals.
