Over the years and especially the last couple of years, Liberty High School has been a force to be reckoned with in the GAC for both boys and the girls track, winning two girls conference championships and two boys conference championships. By the looks of it, they are aiming to add on with their three standout freshman hurdlers looking to help lead the way.
One freshman, Noah Ellis (9), has recently broken the record for the freshman 110 meter hurdles with a time of 17.10 seconds and the previous record being 17.11. Even though he beat it by just a hair, he is still proud of this accomplishment.
Ellis has done track for two years now, with also breaking a record at Frontier in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.34 seconds. As well as setting this new record, he also placed first at the Liberty Freshman Invite on April 29.

“It felt really good breaking the record this year, especially since it was so early in the season,” Ellis said.
Another freshman, Zal Beye (9), has done incredible this season, placing at two meets, with five medals. He got second in both 110 and 300 meter hurdles, at the JV Wolfpack Invitational. At the Liberty Freshman Invite, he got first in the 300 meter hurdles and second in the 110 meter hurdles and the 4×4. Beye has recently had a PR in the 300 meter hurdles, dropping to 44 seconds.
“Track season has been great and I just had a huge PR in the Francis Howell meet,” Beye said.
This track season for the hurdlers was highlighted by another freshman – Chris Gavin (9). He is going into his second year of track and field competing in the 110 meter hurdles and the 300 meter hurdles. Gavin has a total of three medals this year: second at the Holt JV Invitational, his first place medal was at the JV Wolfpack Invitational, and his fourth place medal at Liberty Freshman Invitational. Gavin also had great things to say about Timberland teacher and Liberty hurdles coach, Coach Schulte.
“We have a hurdling coach, Coach Schulte, who is the best because she is always so positive and just wants the best for us,” Gavin said.
Overall, the future looks bright for the Eagles and their young hurdlers and with the team finishing second in the Freshman Invitational, it looks like Liberty track and field can be a force for years to come.
