Liberty boys varsity volleyball has had an incredible season so far, continuing to strive to success in hopes of winning districts. Whether they win a game or lose, they consistently show how much they’ve improved since last season. So far, the season record is 24-6, whereas last season it was 16-16-1.
Many high schools have seniors on their varsity teams that graduate once the season’s over. This can come as a disadvantage, but Liberty has an advantage when it comes to that. Liberty doesn’t have any seniors on their team currently, which means next year will be the same players.
“Our roster will mostly remain the same with a few additions to the team, which will benefit us.” Owen Roberts (11) said.
With only a few new people, the boys will have an easier time adjusting to how each other play, since they’ve played together this season.
Each athlete on this team has their strengths, all adding to the dynamic of the team. Many players continue to reach milestones, like Jimmy Siterlet (11) who just hit 1,000 career kills in the team’s game against Lutheran. As well as Nicholas Hostetter (11) who just reached 1,000 career assists in the team’s game against Francis Howell Central.
This season has had many memorable moments, some more memorable than others.
“The most memorable moment of the season was pulling off a reverse sweep against Lutheran St. Charles,” William Quinney (10) said.
Recently the team won the Clayton MOVA tournament, for the second year in a row, sweeping the competition away. Varsity also had an incredible game against St. Dominic sweeping them in three sets.
Each time the boys walk out onto the court, they don’t know what the outcome will be. Sometimes the opposing team catches them off guard, which can result in a loss. One of those schools is Francis Howell Central.
“The hardest team we’ve played is Francis Howell Central,” Caden Johnson (11) said. “They are quicker than most teams we’ve played which gives us a bigger challenged compared to a lower skilled team.”
In the end, the boys have had an outstanding season. Creating long lasting friendships and memories that will last a lifetime.
