Everyone has done something in their life that serves a purpose for them. This could be a multitude of things. Applying for a job, doing something within your church, or even participating in a sport. These things may not be what life is all about, but since they have an impact on us, we love to do them.
We all know how hard it may be to do multiple things at once. Carson Scrogin (12) knows what this is all about. Not only is he participating in baseball, but he is in track as well. These two sports take time during the same season so everyday he has to go to two practices, and choose between which game/meet he wants to go to.
Everyday after school, he goes to baseball practice and right after baseball he goes to track to do the sprinters workout. From there he goes home, eats dinner, does homework, and then goes to bed. This means he doesn’t get to spend very much time with his family.
Baseball is Scrogin’s primary sport. He has actually missed a few track meets for baseball, but he is going to miss a couple baseball games for track conference and districts.
“I am proud of him no matter what, Carson has helped both teams because he is good at both of them,” said baseball Coach Wheeler.
This is his first year doing these sports together, and he states “My biggest motivator is being competitive, I want to be good at the things I enjoy doing.”
Wheeler talks about how Scrogin has worked very hard to get to where he is now, and that he is a good kid. He puts a lot of effort and time into both of his sports that he could miss multiple meets or practices, and still be great at what he does. Another good thing about this, is that these sports can actually help each other out, track will make him faster for baseball and vice versa.
The next time you think that your schedule is too full to add another thing that you enjoy doing, think about Scrogin’s story and how nobody is stopping you from doing the things you love.
