As expected by the team the JV boys beat Warrenton 8-0 with 5 minutes to spare and the varsity boys beat Warrenton 9-1 with 15 minutes to spare on Tuesday in Warrenton.
For soccer, if you are up by 8 points the game ends and it is called a “mercy.”
Before the varsity game, the JV boys set the expectation by scoring eight times vs. Warrenton and not letting them score at all the entire game. The goals in the JV game were scored by Ameer Farooqui (10) (twice), Gavin Mohr (10), Gavin Morak (10), Ethan Kayser (9), James Good (10), Konnor Tenge (11), and Mason Barylski (10).
After the varsity team watched JV dominate this game, they knew it was their turn to show how good they are.
Unfortunately for Brenden Lukunka (12), he forgot his jersey at home, so while he is usually number 7, he had to borrow Arshad Sirajudeen (10) jersey from the JV team and had to play as number 1.
Compared to other games this season, it was a very clean match with few fouls, but the first goal scored was due to a penalty kick taken by Corey Lynch (12).
Warrenton was able to score with their best player Isaac Wagner, number 8. Before the game Coach Luedecke warned the Eagles about this particular player.
After Warrenton scored, the Eagles knew they had to step up our game and to end the first half, Hieu Do (12), Lukunka, and Owen Horan (12) were able to score, ending the half 4-1.
Kaelen Homar (10) got hurt during the first half, spraining his ankle, leaving him unable to play the rest of the game.
In the second half, the team wanted to go home early so they knew they had to work extra hard to be able to achieve mercy.
Just like the first half, we started with a penalty in the box, but this time Do was the one to take it.
After the penalty, Warrenton kicked the ball out on their side, resulting in a corner kick, taken by Gavin Moyers (12), kicking it to Lynch, giving us another goal with a header. The entire team laughed and asked Ayden Davis (11) if he got that goal because last game Corey took a header and scored and Davis only just missed the ball to make it his goal.
Do also was able to assist James Naphakorn (11) with a goal in the second half.
With the pressure of ending the game early, the team took many shots, but Good was able to get in the game and with the confidence of also scoring in the JV game, he made the game winning goal, ending the game 9-1 with 15 minutes to spare.
The team did much better with communicating today and connecting their passes.
“We played very well as a team, we were connecting well and we knew how to finish,” Jackson Rocco (12) said.
All of our players were able to play today, with them doing so well. Luis Chavez (9) was able to get a lot more playing time than he usually gets and he proved that he deserves to be on the field.
“I thought my crosses were good,” Chavez said. The whole team yelled “good ball” several times for Chavez because of him getting the ball up and giving them a chance to score.
These wins were very exciting for the Eagles, starting off GACS and motivating them for the next game vs Francis Howell North on Oct. 9.
