There is no debate that fries are awesome, but what fries are the best? With almost every single restaurant and fast food place having fries, it is very hard to pick a favorite. However, one must stand higher than the others.
What makes the perfect fry?
According to Patrick Emery (12) what makes a good fry is it must have “the right balance of crispiness and softness.” Others like Danny O’Day (12) have also said that fries must have “the perfect crispiness and salt ratio.”Â
So we know that for them to be considered the absolute best they must have the right amount of salt while not being to salty, and have the right amount of crisp while still keeping that perfect amount of softness. But what fast food restaurant’s fries encompass these characteristics?Â
While we can’t say for certain, we can use what we have gathered and that is that most have said either Chick-fil-A or McDonald’s. There were a few outliers saying some other establishments did not nearly compare to the amount of people who vouched for our top two competitors.Â
What makes each of these restaurants’ fries good is almost exactly what fits our criteria for the title of “best fry,” which makes sense because these were the top two choices. But which one is the best? After all there can only be one winner.
Many students who said McDonald’s referred to the restaurant’s perfect crispiness and their salt ratio. Melody Gagliano (9) prefers McDonald’s fries over the rest of the competitors.
“They taste so good and are skinny, but not too skinny,” Gagliano said. “And they’re just the right amount of salty.”Â
On the other hand, most that said Chick-fil-A’s waffle fries were their favorite, referring to the saltiness as their preference. “The salt gives them so much flavor along with just being waffle fries in general,” Keegan Khayyat (10) said.
The last thing that can make or break the fry experience is the sauce. While we aren’t judging based on the sauces, it was clear that one stood above the rest and that is Chick-fil-A sauce. Chick-fil-A sauce had nine out of 14 votes.
Now to add up, who has the best fries? While everyone has their own preferences and might not agree with this, the decided winner is Chick-fil-A. Chick-fil-A had eight out of 12 people saying it has the best fries. They have the fries with the best salt ratio and are the most crispiness without being too crisp.Â
