This holiday season, Starbucks buyers aren’t just chasing peppermint mochas. They’re chasing a bear.
The new Glass Bearista® Cold Cup, a glass cup shaped like a bear, has become one of the many new holiday Starbucks merchandise that has gotten the attention of consumers.
Across the country, people have been showing up before stores even open, hoping to grab one before they vanish. And they do—fast. Some stores sell out in minutes, leaving disappointed customers scrolling through resale sites where the $30 cup is now going for anywhere from $200 to $1,000.
Not everyone is buying the hype though.
“It’s an overhyped piece of plastic that’s also overpriced,” Yessenia Murillo-Avalos (10) said.
Others, like Asia Chan (10), don’t see the appeal at all.
“You could probably get the same cup on Amazon for cheaper,” Chan asid. “It just won’t have the Starbucks logo.”
However, for collectors and holiday merch lovers, the Bearista cup has become the item of the season that outshines the Gingerbread Cookie Tumbler and Siren’s Tail Mug, both a part of the holiday line of Starbucks merch.
Whether it’s the cuteness, the brand, or just the fun of the chase, Starbucks has managed to turn a simple bear-shaped cup into a holiday moment. And for now, the Bearista remains the hottest accessory of the season, if you can find one.
