With anticipation leading up to the winter snow storm all last week, everyone was speculating if school would get called off, and for how long.
With constant snowfall Saturday and Sunday, and freezing temperatures, the Wentzville School District announced that all schools will be closed Monday, Jan. 26.
In the announcement, the district said the closure is due to inclement weather and challenging road conditions.
Right before Wentzville called off, Francis Howell also called of.
Prior to WSD’s announcement, districts such as Troy, Lincoln County, Wright City, Winfield, Hazelwood, etc. had already called of school. Lindenwood and Missouri Baptist University also announced they were closed on Monday. Earlier Sunday morning, the City of Wentzville declared a Snow Emergency for Wentzville, which is in effect until 8 p.m. Monday night.
Teachers were sent an email on Friday from the district advising them to bring home district-issued devices in case of AMI days. They were told as of then, no decisions about Monday had been made, but they wanted to ensure staff was prepared in the case that the schedule had to change.
Monday is our last regular snow day, meaning any cancellations afterward will turn to AMI days.
With this snow day, there are still five snow day left to be used without having to make up school at the end of the year. Those five snow days however are AMI days.
There has been much speculation over the past week about what this winter storm will bring. This major winter storm system is affecting much of the United States, spanning more than 2,000 miles, stretching from New Mexico and Texas, all the way to New England. There have been over a million reported power outages, and significant travel interruptions, with some places expected to get 1-2 feet of snow.
