Skeleton is a track sport where athletes lay on a sled head first reaching speeds of up to almost 90 miles per hour. To start the athletes push their sled as fast as they can then dive onto it before it is too late. Unlike the luge, to steer the skeleton sled athletes have to use their entire body applying subtle and precise movements. There are three disciplines within skeleton, men’s single, women’s single, and mixed-team. In both men and women the athletes each race down the track four times. The total combined time of the athletes four runs determines the placement of the athletes. In the mixed-team, there are two athletes, one male the other female. They go down the track relay style, once the first reaches the end the other can go. The teams placement is determined by the total time of both athletes combined. Great Britain led the way with two gold medals, then Austria with one. Germany placed third with six medals, however they were all silver and bronze.
