Hockey is one of the well known sports at the Olympics. Countries put together their best possible skaters to play five on five with one simple objective, put the puck in the net. The disciplines are simple, just split into mens and womens. Both follow the same tournament format. The tournament is put into two sides, an A side and a B side. Out of 20 total teams in group play, eight teams make it to the knockout stage. Each individual game consists of three 20 minute periods where whoever scores the most goals wins. Throughout the Olympics existence the gold medal has gone to many different nations each year. But this year both mens and womens United States teams edged out close wins against Canada. And Finland in men’s and Switzerland in women’s winning bronze.
