For some students, spring break was not an escape from school like it was for the rest. This is because 16 students were competing at the HOSA State Leadership Conference in Rolla.
“I was supposed to go on a band trip during that time but I had made an obligation to my team,” Lorelei Wise (12), the club’s vice president, said. “And it’s moments of genuine collaboration with my team that made it worth it. Even though it’s not necessarily the most exciting, it’s something that will last longer than hanging around the house.”
However, the loss of two vacation days did pay off for several competitors with eight students qualifying for the International Leadership Conference in Indianapolis, Ind. this summer.
With the next round of competition coming up in two months, it’s imperative that students continue to prepare for their events. Each competition is different, which means students have their own unique ways to get ready for it.
“Prep for ILC looks a little different for everyone.” Loukya Vaka (12), the club’s president, said. “For instance, one pair needs to turn in a blood drive promotion video by the send-in deadline. Others need to prepare for taking their test again.”
HOSA state is a great way for students to prepare for the medical field, which is their ultimate goal.
