The girls varsity tennis senior night recognized the commitment of 14 seniors.

As the girls tennis season comes to an end, the team members celebrated the seniors with a senior night with a 5-4 victory against Francis Howell on Sept. 20.

After the match, the junior varsity team formed into a tunnel holding their rackets in the air as coach Campos called each senior one by one. The girls walked through the tunnel and received a card and medal along with a water bottle and chair with their name embroidered on it.

“I’ll definitely miss this group, it was once in a lifetime group,” Coach Campos said.

Makayla Mackey is a senior this year, and she plays on the junior varsity tennis team. Mackey has been playing tennis all four years of her high school life. Even though tennis is something she loves and enjoys, she plans on going to college and pursue a dream of art in illustration or maybe even sculpture.

Everyone has their own version of what senior night means to them. “It’s fun, but behind it we’ve all been on the same time and been together since kindergarten so in a way it’s sad,” Mackey said.

Claire White is another senior this year and she plays on the varsity tennis team. After high school, White plans on going to community college for two years and then to Maryville University to become a psychologist in science.

Senior year “showed how much we grew as a team over the years, and all the friendships we made,” White said. Her favorite memory was winning the doubles tournament against west her sophomore year.

“Don’t hold back even though you’re going into a new environment. Be yourself.”

– Coach Campos
