Twenty-six-year-old Kayleigh Amstutz, or more famously known as Chappell Roan, is a singer-songwriter from Willard Missouri who is famous for her several hit songs like, “HOT TO GO!” and “Good Luck, Babe!”.
Roan quickly ascended to fame over the last year gathering attention on social media for her over-the-top performances and receiving high praise from fans and critics alike, about her heartfelt and upbeat songs.
Roan is frequently compared to other famous artists like Stevie Nicks, Janis Joplin, and more.
Many say that Chappell Roan has finally given life to pop. With extravagant wigs, makeup, and outfits, heavily reflecting the 80’s, it’s safe to say that she differs from other pop artists.
While Roan started releasing music in 2017, her popularity started to take off in 2020, after she released the hit song, “Pink Pony Club.”
After her recent rise to fame, Chappell has started to crumble under the pressure of fame.
Some think Roan’s fans are taking it too far, researching her life, and even finding out where her sister works and where her mom lives. Recently, Roan posted a video to TikTok, calling out so-called “superfans” for “harassment” and “creepy behavior,” and explaining that her fans should not expect her to say yes to photos and hugs.
Some people think that Roan’s reaction was justified and that she should not receive backlash for her statements.
“I think it’s okay that she says no to her fans, and I think her reaction is valid,” Lydia Davis (10) said.
Many other students have similar thoughts about the situation.
“Chappell doesn’t owe anybody anything. There’s no need for her ‘fans’ to get mad at her for simply saying no to a picture,” Diego Camaano-Martinez (10) said.
On the other hand, others think Roan is still too new to the spotlight and can’t handle the fame and pressure that comes with being a celebrity.
Some people are even going as far as to say that Roan is displaying bipolar behavior and that she hates her fans.
“I feel like that’s part of what comes with fame, and if they don’t want to do that, they might need to step out of the spotlight,” Garrett Matlock (12) said.
Even with all the mixed opinions about Chappell and her ability to handle the pressure of being in the spotlight, she still obtains over 45 million monthly listeners on Spotify and continues to have songs make it to Billboard’s Hot 100.
No matter what people think, Chappell Roan continues to shock the music industry with her wildly successful songs and performances.
So what do you think, can she handle it?
