The Liberty High School March challenge is currently underway and it takes on a basketball-related theme that is common this time of the year.
In recognition of March Madness, there will be a guessing game with the names of 30 teachers and 30 sports teams. If you can guess 15 of the teachers’ sports teams, you will be entered into a drawing for a prize. And as a bonus, you will get extra credit in your English class for completing this challenge.
Librarian Nikki Playle explains why these challenges are important for getting people interested in going to the library.
“Not all students come to the library before school or during lunch. We hope to offer incentives to get them to come more often. We strive to make the library a welcoming place where all students can come and feel relaxed,” Playle said.
Logan Hinds (12) enjoys doing all the monthly challenges,
“They encourage people to explore the library and learn more about the services offered,” Hinds said. “They are always really creative and challenging.”
Patrick Emery (11) explains why he enjoys the library challenges.
“It’s really nice to get the extra credit and it’s just really fun to get my friends together during lunch and complete the challenges together,” Emery said.
Emery enjoys having that space in general as a calming space, especially during lunch.
“It’s a really quiet place to work. Even if you’re not working on the library challenge, I really like the library in general because I go during lunch and the librarians are really nice,” Emery said.
Other happenings at the library this month includes a make and take garden on March 20, during Nest time and the therapy dogs will be visiting the library twice in April.
Even if you aren’t partaking in these particular activities, the library can be a really nice space, especially during lunch if you need a quiet place to study. In terms of offerings at the library, the monthly challenges are a nice way to introduce the library as a place that can be used to work and hang out with friends during lunch.
