The girls varsity soccer team has started their season winning eight of their first 10 matches for a 8-1-1 record.
Coach Kleekamp explains how the team’s success is due to their positive attitude and hard work that they put forward each day. She says that an essential skill for soccer is having drive and enjoying the competition part of it.
“Whether it’s a practice or a game, they are always going hard,” Kleekamp said. “I don’t always have to enforce that because they naturally bring it every day.” She adds that a key skill for soccer is being a good teammate and presenting a positive attitude each day.
Some goals they have for this season are making it to finals for the Champions League. They also hope to win the Conference Cup Title, and the District Title.
Sophie Means (10) is beginning her second year on varsity soccer. So far, Means has been enjoying this season with a team-leading six assists.
“One important skill that I use for soccer is communication, and working hard on and off the ball,” Means said.
Kleekamp explains how she watched Means grow over the past two years. She explained that her freshman year, Means mostly kept to herself and worked hard on the field, but this year she has watched her character come out more. She was also selected as a captain this year by her teammates
“Her teammates selected her to be a captain this year, which I think says a lot about her character and what they think of her as a leader,” Kleekamp said.
Offensively, the team is led by Reece Hoffman (10), who has seven goals so far. Madelynn Moyers (9) has added five goals. Goalkeeper Stella Zielinski (9) protects the goal and has three shutouts and allowed just 11 goals in 10 matches.
Overall, girls varsity soccer continues to work hard on and off the field, and hopes to win the Conference Cup title, and the District title.
