One of the holidays that gets the most attention in the library throughout the year is the 12 Days to the Holidays Christmas challenges running from Dec. 1-16. Students must complete 10 of the 12 activities to get extra credit.
The Christmas challenges have been available for three years. This is a fun activity for students every year and gives them a chance to hang out and be creative. The challenges start off at the first two high tables when you walk into the library during lunch with different things set up with an example to show the completed craft. After you finish the craft or activity, you go up to a librarian and get your paper stamped on the day you made it.
“My favorite thing about the challenges is that there’s just so many things to do,” Trinity Ramsbottom (11) said. ”This is because if someone doesn’t like making crafts, they could do a [different] challenge the next day.”
The challenge started off with making bookmarks with a snowman on it. You were given markers to color it but the early release put an early end to that one. The next day would have been a wooden reindeer but was canceled because there was no school that day since it turned out to be a snow day. The third day of this challenge was to turn a small thing of doughnuts into a snowman with colored paper, mini pompoms, and ribbon. The fourth day, which is today, was to make an agamograph.
“I liked doing the doughnut one because I got to spend time with my friends and it was fun to make,” Zachary Reitzner (11) said.
This newly recent tradition has been loved by the students that need a break from classes, stress from upcoming finals, etc.
