Staff members will have the opportunity to earn CPR certification during an on-school grounds training session on Tuesday, Feb. 24, at 2:45 p.m.
The class, organized through the Wentzville School District, will cover adult and pediatric CPR, AED use, as well as first aid following American Heart Association guidelines. The session will last about 1 hour and 30 minutes and will be held fully in person. The school is covering the cost of certification for staff, making the training free.
“Members of the LHS Heart Team, coaches, and other interested staff have already signed up,” school nurse Melissa Simms said. “While this session is currently only available to staff, HOSA previously sponsored a student CPR certification class in November and has helped organize similar opportunities in past years.”
Although no student CPR classes are scheduled for the spring, Simms shared that the WSD Health Services Department can arrange future student certifications if there is interest. Student certifications typically cost about $16 and are valid for two years.
Staff members interested in taking advantage of this opportunity must reach out to Simms by Feb. 20.
“Spots may be limited – so please do not delay in letting me know,” Simms said.
This training helps ensure more adults on campus are prepared for emergencies, creating a safer school environment overall.
