The weight room is important for students in many different ways. Some may use it for sports, some may use it after school to get a good workout in, and some may just use it in their physical education classes. Nonetheless, the weight room is used by kids every day and is getting worn down, so physical education teacher and wrestling coach Kevin Haynes upgraded.
At the beginning of last school year, all the physical education teachers came together with their classes and started a fundraiser. They asked their students to post anywhere on social media or even ask their family members to click on a link and donate to help with the renovation of the weight room. The fundraiser helped raise around $3,500 for the weight room.
With this money they were able to buy lots of new equipment such as a cable cross machine and bumper plates, as well as having weights be donated to the school. But, the most recent addition is new dumbbells and lateral pull down machines. These were bought with the fundraiser money and the administration also helped buy the dumbbells.
“I’m glad that this money was donated to us so we can make the fitness center more useable,” coach Haynes said.
Coach Haynes has also put in a request for a booster club. This will be either approved or disapproved in March and if it gets approved he will be able to buy more things for the weight rooms.
This new addition will help the sports teams as well. Many teams have to fight for spots in the weight room, but since there are now weights in the fitness center, this helps with having more places for teams to train.
“It’s nice to have new equipment,” cross country and track coach Tobias Glavin said.
This will help out a lot of students at Liberty and all the coaches are pleased with the addition.
