Figure Skating is one of the most recognizable winter Olympic sports. The mesmerizing performances of each skater defines what a performance truly is. Figure skating is split into four disciplines, Singles, Pairs, Ice dance, and synchronized skating. First we have Singles, the classic performance filled with jumps, spins, and gravity defining tricks. It is usually seen as a short free skate. Then there is Pairs, consisting of usually a man and a woman, both skaters will perform jumps, moves side by side, and overhead lifts. Each skater will rely and need to trust one another. Next is Ice dance, Ice dance is more over technical footwork, rhythm, and dance movements all to music. And then there’s synchronized skating, 8-16 skaters all move together as one single unit. The United States took away the most golds and finished in first place, with Japan trailing with six total medals but not enough golds to take first, and coming tied third together France and Kazakhstan joined one medal each.
