Prom is right around the corner this Saturday at The Foundry Art Centre in St. Charles from 7-10 p.m. Decorations are set up, students are dressed up for the spirit week, and the nominees are ready to win. The age old tradition of Prom Queen and King continues this year and already the stakes are high.
Prom is seen as a right of passage for most teens so having the honor of being nominated is a big deal but also one that can be very competitive. Votes are made by peers and show popularity, school spirit, or achievements for the individuals chosen.
In the Prom Court there is the Prom Queen, King, Princess, and Prince that will be individually voted on via an email sent to juniors and seniors from Monday.
This year your Royal nominees are as follows:
Prom King: Garrett Nielson, Jackson Ryan, Louis Stoyanov, and Miguel Espinosa
Prom Queen: Annie Swift, Haylee Carlson, Echo Brooke, and Kylie Peck
Junior Royalty: Drew Pusatera, Noah Johnson, Adalyn Vineyard, and Brenna Carr
This year, the upperclassmen nominated will take on the competition of the yearly ceremonial vote. This week promotion for the candidates goes around school as the annual tradition of prom comes around.
“I’ve been promoting my nominations to social media,” Garrett Nielson (12) said.
Social media seems to be the primary place for promotion, however, Louis Stoyanov (12) and Echo Brooke (12) have been promoting their candidacy in a more creative way.
“We are posting a lot of videos, posters, and dressing up for a 2000s film pretty much every day,” Stoyanov said.
“This [Prom Court] has been really fun,” Annie Swift (12) said. All the nominees report on the excitement of being on the court, and the honor of being a part of this year’s Prom.
This year’s prom theme “Gilded City,” will be an exciting event. If you haven’t purchased your tickets yet, you can get the tickets at The Perch or online for $75 until Friday, and remember to show support for the nominee you vote for.
