This past Thursday the Wentzville School District called its first two hour snow schedule late start as a result of snow that began late on Wednesday night and continued into the early hours of Thursday morning.

The Missouri Department of Transportation began preparing for the winter weather during the afternoon of the 4th, pre-treating the road with chemicals and salt as necessary.

A small weather system passed over much of the St. Louis metropolitan area beginning around 11 p.m. on Wednesday. It deposited 1-2 inches over much of the area.

Despite MODOT’s efforts, there was still traffic backup and unsafe road conditions where melted snow refroze, or created an unsuitable, slushy driving surface.

Wentzville School District officials took these conditions into account when they made their decision to delay the start of classes by two hours. The snow schedule late start was added to the district’s arsenal of solutions against lost learning time to snow days after the 2013-2014 school year, when the district experienced an impressive 11 snow days.
