A fire alarm sounded throughout the building of Liberty High School after district maintenance crew members tripped a faulty fire alarm.
At around 12:50 p.m. the first alarm sounded, which then resulted in a evacuation of the building. Students were located in their seventh hour classrooms on Dec. 13, when the alarm rung.
Caroline Sauter (12) was in her English IIII when the alarms went off.
“Its cold, but I’m glad everyone got out safely,” Sauter said.
Faculty members worked hard in order to make sure what could’ve been a more serious situation, less stressful. The Liberty administrators immediately called the district office to report this incident to the superintendent.
Principal Edgar Nelson was one of the faculty members who diffused this stressful situation.
“Everyone did great, everyone went outside,” Nelson said. “We appreciate all of the students and teachers acting in an appropriate way.”
Wentzville School District maintenance was sent to Liberty originally to test the alarm systems, but ultimately because of a faulty alarm the system triggered all of the alarms.
After around 15 minutes of standing outside, waiting patiently for some news, teachers were notified and got the all clear to come inside.
Following the first alarm, a second false alarm was sounded at 1:06 p.m and another following a few minutes after.
What ended up being a false alarm, resulted in a good practice scenario for students and staff.
