Maddox Batson is a 15-year-old up and coming star, born in Nashville and at 7 years old, moved to Birmingham, Alabama.
In March of 2024, Batson first released his debut single “Tears in the River” which reached the top 20 on Spotify’s US Viral 50 chart. By the end of 2024, the song has about 12 million global streams. Batson is one of the youngest artists to sign with Warner Records, Keedron Bryant, a protest singer, being the youngest.
On the same day that Batson signed with Warner, September 5, 2024, he released his song “X’s”, which is now his top song with over 16 million global streams. Following his record deal, he went on a sold-out headlining tour across the US, and performed at CMA Fest, and became the youngest artist to perform at the Whiskey Jam venue.
As of 2023, Batson has been a full time homeschooler, and took the time off to focus on his music career.
“It’s honestly helped a lot, and I don’t have to worry about little things like missing class,” Batson said.
LHS Publications recently had the opportunity to interview Batson on Zoom.
Growing up, Batson was involved a lot with theatre and says that it has helped him a lot with stage fright and being comfortable in front of a crowd.
At 14 years old, he wrote the song “Tough” about his late father and grandfather.
“I wrote it for me, and I cut it, but it never really got put out,” Batson said. “Then I got the call from Lana (Del Ray) and that was my first ever songwriters cut,” Batson said.
Lana Del Ray had a plan to make this song a hit with the help of another artist, Quavo.
“I was really excited, running around my house, and of course I said yes. It’s such an honor and a blessing,” Batson said. “It went number one in the UK, has over 500 million streams, and is about to go platinum.”
In March of 2024, he released his first E.P. titled, “First Dance,” and on March 26 he made his performance debut at the Grand Ole Opry.
Following his headlining tour in spring of 2025, he is opening for Grammy winner, Lainey Wilson, during her Whirlwind World Tour, expected to begin in September 2025.
