Dances have always been a part of the high school experience, dating back to when our grandparents were kids. It has always been a fun thing to go to with friends, a partner, in a group, or even by yourself. A lot of people either go for the experience or for the after parties, but some like more than just socializing and dancing. There are many fun parts about the night and even the week.
Many people attend this event every year, but the dance isn’t the only fun part about the night. Most go to dinner and pictures before the dance and some even do something after. Luis Chavez (9) was one of these people.
“We went to one of our friends’ house, then we went to Hoco, then after we went to an after party,” Chavez said.
Dinner before is also a fun and key part of the night and this year the most popular place was probably Olive Garden. Many students went there to enjoy their meal before dancing the night away.
“We took pictures then we went to Olive Garden and had a lot of fun,” Jacob Brooks (10) said.
One thing that was different this year however was the fact that it rained. The rain affected many plans, but luckily everyone found their own ways around it. Some stayed inside and took the pictures in a living room or on their porch, but others were thinking outside the box and went to a hotel or park with pavilions.
The overall rating of the dance this year has been up and down. Some thought it was the best one yet but others definitely did not.
“I would say this was my favorite one,” Clayton Johnson (12) said. “I would say because this year I didn’t stand on the side like I usually do and I didn’t go in and dance. But this year I did.”
While there were people like Johnson who loved the dance, some people like James Naphakorn (11) didn’t enjoy it as much.
“It was pretty fun, but I think last year was better,” Naphakorn said.
Another enjoyable part of homecoming week and just the dance itself is all the one posts you can make on social media. Many people post on Instagram or TikTok about their experience, whether it be video/pictures of the actual dance itself, transitions, or posting their pre-dance pictures.
“I posted on Instagram and TikTok, the post was a transition on TikTok, and photos on Instagram,” Amelia Ortmeyer (9) said.
It doesn’t matter if go by yourself or if you think that it’s boring. Homecoming is a fun time to go to because at the end of the day, you only have four years of high school and four chances to go. No matter who it was, everyone had at least one good thing to say about the dance. So you should just go and see for yourself if you’ll enjoy it. It is a great experience and everyone should give it a go.
