Halloween is a beloved holiday by many. To the masses, it is a holiday about going house to house with the same tagline, and overloading with sugar. For others, it’s about the culture of horror and all things frightening. Whether that be scary movies, haunted houses, or doing a deep dive on ghost stories. But one argument all Halloween lovers can agree on is that it is a season of jaunting spirits, and amusing traditions.
One of the most beloved traditions of Halloween has always been costumes. It is a way people can express themselves through dressing up as whatever they want, on the one night it becomes socially acceptable. And as teachers begin decorating their classrooms for Halloween, and fall break approaches, concepts of costumes begin filling students minds.
Kathy Thomas (10) has announced that she is going to be dressed as a snow leopard for the 2025 Halloween season. Thomas got the idea from one of her favorite artists, $uicideboy$.
“I’m going to be wearing a halter top and a white ruffle skirt with some black boots.” Thomas said. Keeping it real, Thomas stated that she is still in the process of putting her costume together.
Ari Quail-Cook (12) also has big plans for her Halloween costume. She mentions her idea to be Wonder Woman. Quail explained how she got the idea from scrolling on pinterest.
“I’m going to have a red corset, and then I made the shorts which are blue with stars, and I have these beautiful red boots. I also got gold gloves, and a lasso,” Quail-Cook said. She plans to piece this costume together, and adds she will most likely be wearing this costume while going trick-or-treating with friends.
In a different case, some students have taken the opportunity to correlate their costume with their partner. Chandler Hirtz (12) and his girlfriend Myleigh Turnipseed (12) have decided to be The Joker (Hertz) and Harley Quinn (Turnipseed). Hertz said that they were at Spirit Halloween when they noticed the costumes, which they ultimately decided to build off of.
“I’m going to be wearing a purple suit, I’m also going to dye my hair green and have a full face of face paint,” Hirtz said. He also explained what Turnipseed is going to be wearing. “She’s wearing the Harley Quinn shirt, and her shorts.” Hirtz adds that they will both be attending a family event together, and additionally a costume party on Halloween night.
Adie Schultz (10) is also participating in a couples costume this year with her boyfriend, Devin DeCaro (10). She notes that she will be dressed as Catwoman, and her boyfriend will be dressed as Batman.
“I’ll probably wear a black long sleeve, and black leggings, gotta buy some cat ears, maybe try to find some black boots. And then he’s gonna be wearing one of those costumes with built in muscles,” Schultz laughs. “With a Batman mask, and a Batman belt.”
Like many others, Schultz mentions that she is hurriedly trying to organize her costume before Halloween. She also brings up that they will be wearing their costume to the blackout football game, and alludes to a Halloween event.
As you can see, students of Liberty have big plans for Halloween 2025. Interests are coming out through Halloween costumes, and the result is a variety of different themes. Whether you have your costume ready to go or not, going alone or with a significant other, it is important to remember to have fun this Halloween night, and stay safe.
