On the morning of Halloween, the cross country team decided to drive out to preview Sioux Passage Park in Hazelwood to get a feel of the course. After this, their coach, Glavin, took the whole team to get breakfast and have a nice team bonding before the season ends.
The preview paid off because the next day both varsity men’s and women’s teams both placed in the top three as a team at the Class 5 District 3 race to advance to the state meet in Columbia.
In order to get a medal, you had to place in the top 30. For the whole team to make it to district, your team had to be in the top 4.
The varsity boys were more than ready to compete with the first race that morning. First up was Nate Wietbrock (12) placing 9th. Not far from Wietbrock was Noah Green (11) placing 13th. Brayden Davies (12) earned 22nd with Landon Pfeiffer (12) tagging along in 26th.
The varsity girls were ready to cruise along and snag the win with Bella Navarro Sanchez (11) getting 1st. Kailey Lawrence (12) placed 7th. Kailynn Burton (10) placed 19th with Ashley Sauceda (11) behind her placing 23rd. Close behind was Macailyn Townsend (9) in 30th.
The team’s next step is a race at the Class 5 state championships.
