
Luge is a track sport where the athlete who rides their sled lying on their back reaching speeds of up to 90+ miles per hour. The three disciplines of luge are singles, doubles, and team relay. To steer the sled, athletes have to use their legs to bend the runners. To start the race athletes sit in their sled and use handles to launch themselves then push with their hands on the ice. In team relay the order of the racers is women’s single, men’s double, men’s single, then lastly women’s double. Once they reach the finish line they have to hit a pad that will release a gate at the top allowing the next rider to go. If anyone misses that pad the team will be disqualified for a DNF. Germany led the countries with five medals, closely behind them was Italy with two gold and two bronze, then Austria with three silver and one bronze.
