Every spring, NFL fans await for the draft.
Excitement rushes over them as the three-day event rolls around the corner. Not only do they get to experience enjoyment for their beloved sport, which they’ve missed over the off season, but they also get to experience a change in their teams roster. Because the NFL draft is where franchises start, and where dreams are come to light, along with futures being secured into place.
This year the 2025 NFL draft was no different, we experienced amazing prospects that we saw over the college season. And Green Bay, which this years draft took place in was also filled with tons of excitement. But no one could have even began to predict the fate of Colorado player, Shedeur Sanders.
Coming into the draft weekend, expectations were high. Talents from all over the nation like Cam Ward, Travis Hunter, Ashton Jeanty, along with Shedeur Sanders had all been under the microscope. Film was reviewed and they were all predicted to go in the first round. While in specific Sanders the highly talented quarterback was iffy, scouts, fans and NFL professions all projected for him to be a first to second round pick.
Yet as NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, like always was greeted by the fans with boo’s, the night kicked off in full swing. The NFL draft only proceeded to go downhill.
The picks started rolling in. And with no surprised the number one pick of the 2025 NFL draft was Cam War. Followed by Travis Hunter to the Jaguars: a dynamic player who can dominate on both offense and defense. Along with more familiar names like Ashton Jeanty, and Armand Membou. Yet one name in particular was still uncalled – Shedeur Sanders.
Most fans and figures all over the world sat in shock, confused on teams like the Steelers and Browns’ decision yet still held onto faith thinking he’d be picked in the second round.
President Donald J. Trump even stated on Truth Social.
“What is wrong with NFL owners, are they STUPID,” Trump said. “Deion Sanders was a great college football player, and was even greater in the NFL.”
Yet as rounds two, three, and four passed, fans still stood in a growing silence over the fact that a great college prospect, like Shedeur Sanders was not drafted. Other quarterbacks that did not seem to be projected to have as great as potential as Sanders like Dillion Gabriel got drafted before him.
Fans and NFL stars all took to social media in disbelief with even some questioning what the NFL was doing.
Despite this, Shedeur Sanders handled the news like a pro, on social media Sanders took this chance to tell everyone they weren’t discoursing him saying by saying “Thank you GOD.”
Overall, while he was picked up within the fifth round by the Browns, who received multiple opportunities to pick him up before, Sanders stayed positive and held his peace.
Yet fans are still left in confusion, asking the question… Did the NFL finally find a way to captivate fans during the draft?
