The Blues suffered a heartbreaking loss in Game 7 that will sting for quite awhile.
One second away from advancing to the second round of the playoffs, the Blues fell short as Winnipeg scored a tying goal with 1.6 seconds left and then won 4-3 in double overtime. The win propelled Winnipeg to advance to play Dallas.
Played at Winnipeg, the Jets goalie Connor Hellebuyck was having a rough time the last two games of the round. Both teams were stressed because they knew they would be kicked out of the playoffs if they lost this game. Despite the loss, the Blues played a good game until the final minutes.
“It was super annoying because they were playing a great game up until the last 2 minutes,” Izzy Scheer (11) said about the Blues. The Blues were up by 2 goals then Winnipeg came back and stole the game.
Blues goalie Jordan Binnington had no chance to stop the tying goal when Winnipeg scored in the last second of the game on a redirected shot. The crowd went crazy over the goal. The Blues definitely lost their energy going into overtime. Winnipeg was playing great during overtime. Unfortunately, the Blues don’t have a great record with overtime. Neither team scored in the first overtime so the game went to a second overtime.
“It was an extreme letdown to see The Blues lose,” Delaney Hilgenbrink (12) said. The ending score was 4-3 Winnipeg Jets. While Blues fans were livid in watching the ending of this game, the team had a great finished to the season but unfortunately it just wasn’t meant to be.
