The bridge walk is a long standing tradition here at Liberty. This tradition helps to welcome the freshman into the school, they cross over the bridge located by the football field and become “official” Liberty Eagles.
Unfortunately, the class of 2029 dealt with a high heat index, with the temperature nearing 88 degrees during their bridge walk.
“I thought it was very hot walking to it,” Connor Smith (9) said. However, the brutal August heat did not lessen Smith’s excitement for the school year. “I think I will like it better than middle school.”
Peyton Bemis (9) shared that she believed the bridge walk was “very cool,” explaining that she appreciated “that [the school] thinks about the freshmen, and want to honor them.” The involvement of the freshmen this early on, helped to show her that the school wants to include and accept newcomers.
Bemis eagerly awaits her time in high school, saying “I’m looking forward to having the actual responsibility of taking care of myself, and getting myself to my classes.” Along with this, she’s “excited for the sports and the extracurricular activities” she plans to participate in.
The annual bridge walk is an important step towards being involved in Liberty. It welcomes the freshmen with open arms to their new, and slightly intimidating, school. Showing them that they belong here, with us.
