This isn’t just a new team; it was a blank canvas. The guidance of two fresh-faced coaches – Coach Lauren Pyatt and Coach Alyssa Frey; Frey being a previous student-athlete at LHS and eager to make her mark on and off the court.
They’ve both had an impact on the JV girls team.
“They’ve kept our team up and positive, and then giving good feedback on how we can improve in our skillwork,” Macailyn Townsend (9) said. “Pyatt knows when to lock in and when to let us have fun.”
The girls have so far posted a 2-2 record. Coach Pyatt has been around sports her entire life and was a student-athlete herself. She played basketball in high school, and during those years she said she’s had coaches who made a huge impact on her.

Their influence stayed with her, and it inspired her to want to make the same kind of difference for others.
Coaching gives Pyatt the chance to watch her athletes grow as players and as people.
“I truly enjoy the relationships I’m able to build with them,” Pyatt said. “I push the girls to reach their full potential, not only to help them grow as players now, but to set them up for success in the future of our program.”
One thing Pyatt mentioned she makes sure the girls do consistently is make sure every athlete gives their teammates a high-five whenever they pass by each other, which helps create a supportive and positive environment.
Our student-athletes say their coaches are very disciplined and make sure they stay grounded through wins and losses. They say that Pyatt and Frey work their best together and that they truly don’t yell for no reason. When they do yell, it’s for a reason. They also want the girls to have fun and relax in games, mostly mentioning how they hold them accountable for their mistakes.
The future is looking bright for this team, especially with the guidance of these two mentors.
