It’s that time of the year again, stories flooded with screenshots of everyone’s top artists, Vlogs of everyone complaining that it wasn’t accurate, videos of people happily exclaiming that theirs was accurate. With my last statement the argument comes again, is Spotify wrapped accurate, or is it generated and not personalized at all?
“Wrapped” is different on every listening site, but in general, it’s a summary of what you listened to throughout the year. While not always accurate, they do always include at least a few things you tend to listen to. Wrapped includes top artists, songs, albums, minutes listened, genres, and this year even your age based on your music taste.
With an estimated 51,000 minutes of listening equivalent to 35 days, Avaya Kolbet (9) has struck the attention of few, what has she been listening to, what makes her not turn her music off? Kolbet’s top artist was Wifiskeleton, not too far off since her top song was “No wait too late i already died,” and her top album being “suburban daredevil,” both by Wifiskeleton. Her listening age was 32, which wasn’t too inaccurate, considering her top genres were Pop Rock, Indie Pop, Alternative, R&B, Emo Rap, and Pop.

In total this year, Kolbet listened to 2,286 songs, and 11 albums. Who were some of these songs and albums by?
While Kolbet’s music taste is going in every which way, we can still assume most were by her top five artists which were; Kanye West, Kid Cudi, Tyler The Creator, and obviously Wifiskeleton.
“My wrapped was definitely expected, but I kind of thought sombr would be there more than he was. I was also a bit surprised by Kid Cudi being there, I didn’t expect him to be,” Kolbet said who expressed her surprise of two artists who should have swapped, and how she expected her wrapped to be what it was.
Ava Alexander’s (9) top artists were Frank Ocean, Billy Joel, Zack Bryan, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Nirvana.
“Frank Ocean was more like January, so I didn’t expect him to be there,” Alexander said. This is one of the examples of accurate songs, and albums, but not artist. She claims her top songs and albums were more accurate than her artist results, including Red Hot Chili Peppers being apart of her artist list, due to her not listening to them very often.
Summer Rae (11) is an example of a spotify wrapped that is truly accurate to a T. Rae’s top artist was Drake, and all of her top songs, and albums were either by Drake or the weekend.
“Yeah it was accurate, nothing I would change,” Rae explains when asked how to describe her wrapped.
A group of friends, Nevaeh White (10), Kendall Homar (9), and Addi Lovelace (9), go back-and-forth discussing their top artists. While Lovelace tries to make a point on why people should listen to PARTYNEXTDOOR, to which Homar claims that people should not. Then White begins to speak about her top artist NBA Youngboy, stating which of his songs, and albums are worth a listen.
“NBA Youngboy was my #2 artist so go listen to ‘I ain’t going outside today,’” Homar says in agreement to White. Lovelace continues the conversation, claiming that the song “Gravity” by NBA Youngboy is a good song, in which White agrees claiming it to be the best song by him.
Family, and friends can also affect our wrapped. Math teacher Mrs. Gault listens mainly to MGK, her kids love the KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack, so some of her top songs happen to be Soda-pop, and Your Idol even though it’s not her own music taste.
KK Dickerson (9) listens to more of Drake and Zack Bryan, but with the interference of her and her sister sharing an account some of her wrapped was not her doing. Things like “Good grades” by Sabrina Carpenter and an overflow of genres and songs were her older sister’s doing, is what she claims.
Our next example would be our Apple music listeners who have their own version of wrapped, while it excludes things like listening age, videos from artists, and a few other things it still gives a good summary of their years.
Industrial tech. teacher Mr. Galati’s top artist was Jackson Dean, with his top song being “Heavens to Betsy.” Although, Apple Music isn’t always completely accurate either. “That’s not my favorite album, I just found that one…there’s no way,” Galati says in response to the reveal of his top album.
Noah Foelsch’s (11) top artist is Rod Wave, and top song being “Alone.” Folesch was enthusiastic about his love for Rod Wave’ss music, meaning his wrapped was an accurate description of his taste.
Another part of wrapped that people look forward to are the artist videos. They are quick messages from your top artists, thanking you for listening to them, and if you’re lucky even a sneak peak to a new single, or album. Sophia Wells (10) artist video was from Billie Eilish. This video consists of Billie proclaiming her love and appreciation to her fans, for making the year so amazing.
