Marquise Buckley is a 16-year-old junior at Liberty High School, who works as manager at the Burger King on Highway K. He has been working there for a year and eight months, and it took him seven of those months to actually become the manager.
“I like my job because it’s easy and fun with the right people,” Buckley said.
Buckley worked his way up from a normal shift worker, to shift leader, to his current position as manager.
“I became a manager because I’m the best and hardest working person there,” Buckley said. Not many people have become a manager at such a young age, especially with balancing school and personal life.
Hardships in the Workspace
“Some people in the workspace don’t respect my authority due to my age and that’s unfair, because I have proved myself worthy of this position,” Buckley said.
Many people have tried to overthrow his authority. He claims that a woman even quit because she didn’t like him being in a higher position than him.
“If people don’t respect my position I worked hard for, they can leave,” Buckley said.
Buckley is dedicated to going after what he wants, and he will do what it takes to achieve his goals.
Responsibility as Manager
Taking the responsibility of everyone working in Burger King can be a challenge for Buckley at times.
“It’s a ton of pressure to make sure things are constantly going well, but at the end of the day it’s worth it,” he said. He takes as many hours as he can, and even offers to take other people’s shifts. He opens and closes back-to-back morning and night, as much as possible during the week. Buckley is very serious about his position, and he strives to make as much money as he can.
The Goal
“Burger King is a family and we all love and respect each other over there,” Buckley said. He has stayed at Burger King for as long as he has because of the people and the connections he has made.
“If I had a chance to get a more beneficial job, I would take it,” Buckley said, who said he is very open to new opportunities. However, he doesn’t plan on leaving Burger King any time soon. Buckley even plans to become general manager of a Burger King when he turns 18. His goal is to take Burger King as far as he can, before pursuing his dream career as an actor.
