In the past few weeks the soccer team has not looked so good, but on Tuesday night they really showed their love for the game and worked together to beat the undefeated team – Rock Bridge.
Several Duello kids were also there for Duello night to show our future Eagles. Nine kids walked out with our starting players. So far, Duello, Crossroads, and Discovery Ridge have all come to the soccer games. Coach Luedecke is doing this to try and build the soccer community.
In the first minute of the game, James Naphakorn (11) scored the first goal.
“My favorite play of the game is James’ goal to start it off in the first minute, it just set the tone for the rest of the game and really helped boost our confidence,” Jonah Chisholm (9) said. The boys were ecstatic and jumped up and cheered for Naphakorn.
Kaelen Homar (10) also scored a goal in the first half and everyone on the team was very proud of him. At the end of the first half Tyler Meier (12) scored a goal with only one second remaining.
“My favorite play was when I scored that goal,” says Meier.
“Yeah me too, when he scored that goal,” Clayton Johnson (12) said. After that half ended, they all ran to the locker room outside of the field and started banging on the walls cheering for Meier.
Almost everyone on the team got playing time since they were doing so great, a few players that didn’t get that much playing time in recent games, got more than 10 minutes.
In the second half there were many fouls and a few yellow cards. One of those fouls happened to be in the box so Brendan Lukunka (12) got to take a penalty kick and made it. Everyone cheered and they ran over to one of the cameras and pointed to take a celebration shot.
In the last few minutes, Rock Bridge scored a goal for their team, leaving the score 4-1. Everyone was super happy with the result of the game. They said that their connections were great today and they really excelled.
A few things the team noticed that they need to work on is communication and switching the ball from the left to the right and vice versa.
After the game they all run to the locker room and Coach Luedecke gives them encouragement about everything that they did in the game. After Luedecke leaves the locker room, they all get in a big circle and sing. It’s a fun tradition that they do after they win games at The Nest.
The boys varsity soccer team had a great game on Sept. 16 improving their record 3-3.
