It was a shocking night for the crowd on both teams, however, ours is the one that went home cheering.
The Eagles came in and showed that they were not about to go easy on Zumwalt East just because it was the Lions’ Homecoming game. The Eagles (5-2) built a 36-point lead at halftime and rolled to their fifth win of the season. Next Friday is Homecoming at the Nest as Liberty hosts Zumwalt South (4-3).
In the first quarter, the Liberty offense went full throttle and scored with 7 minutes left in the first quarter, the additional point was good as well. Due to this early game score, the team’s morale and determination was at a high.
In the second quarter, the Eagles proved that they were going to be the victors of the game. The Eagles scored with 9 minutes left, the additional point was good and they ended up with 14-0. Another Eagles’ touchdown occurred with 7:15 left on the clock, and the additional point was good as well. Almost directly after the Lions scored a touchdown and fumbled their additional point, Wide receiver Caiden Galati (12) scored a touchdown and made the score 28-6.
Running back Jalen Mack (12), who rushed for a game-high 154 yards, scored the last two touchdowns of the second quarter, the lead increased to 42-6 at the end of the second quarter.
After halftime, the Eagles did not let up and continued to be a driving force. With 2:30 seconds left in the third quarter, quarterback Sullivan Thornton (12) scored the next touchdown, as well as the additional point, leaving the score at 49-6.
In the fourth quarter, the Eagles made a statement. They score one last touchdown and additional point, ending the Lions’ Homecoming game with a winning score of 55-6.
“I think we played great,” Jonah Kaler (11) said. “All of our O-line played amazing.”
Jawad Aarda (12) reflected with “We executed perfectly.”
