More united than ever, the JV Eagles’ football team’s season came to a close.
For months, these young athletes had poured their hearts and souls onto the gridiron, pushing their limits and forging bonds that would last a lifetime. They came back this season with a hunger like never before and finished the season with a 5-2 record.
“We wanted to win more, especially after last year,” Luke Elliott (10) said. They will carry their battles and lessons with them through thick and thin as they are preparing to play mostly on varsity next year.
This season, they’ve brought home multiple victories. Their season highlight was their win against top rival, Francis Howell, a team they’ve never beaten before until now.
As much as everyone wants to talk about their highlights, reality calls for touching base on their low-lights. Their last game against Holt was a devastating blowout as they lost 21-0. It was an emotional game for the players and the crowd. Especially because the freshman team played with JV; everybody was truly united. Through the losses (though there weren’t many), they have never lost their faith and determination for the game.
“Their hard work during practice has really reflected during games.” coach Michael Kaiser said.
Next year this time around, they’ll be playing under the Friday night lights instead of Monday, acknowledging the increased competition and higher stakes.
And so, with a final cheer, the JV team dispersed, not as an ending but a launching pad. They carried with them the self-taught, life-long lessons from their hard-fought battles, ready to face the future, united by the experiences that had shaped them into a team, a family, and now, varsity hopefuls.
