Thanksgiving. A day where you get the opportunity to share the things you are grateful for with the people you love, whether that’s the family you were born into, or the one you made for yourself. A day where you can eat to the point of feeling sick. A day full of family traditions passed down each and every year.
Tabitha Musangali (12) already has big plans for Thanksgiving day. She explains that some of her family is coming into town, and how she is having some family friends over for dinner. Musangali explained how her family does Thanksgiving a little bit differently.
“We don’t eat turkey, instead we make chicken, salad, macaroni and cheese, and rolls,” Musangali said.
While food is a big part of Thanksgiving, traditions are even more special.
“We go around and say what we are thankful for, and then after dinner we always put up our Christmas decorations.” Musangali explained.
From the food, to the traditions, the people and the joy, Thanksgiving means something different to each person, for Musangali it means something special.
“Thanksgiving’s a time to just be with family and friends, and remind yourself there’s a lot in this world to be grateful for, I also feel like it’s a time to ground yourself and be with he people you love,” she said.
Hadley Kendall (11) shares how excited she is for Thanksgiving day and whom she will be celebrating with.
“I’m going to be with my mom, stepdad, and my brother,” Kendall said. She states how this year she will be eating lots and lots of food, especially Hawaiian rolls. Although Kendall loves rolls, she explains that it isn’t the only dish her family prepares for Thanksgiving.
“My family normally has corn casserole, turkey, macaroni and cheese, and sliced cranberry,” Kendall said.
Even though Kendall loves a good Thanksgiving meal, she also loves the traditions her family does each season. She explained that her family likes to play different games and spend quality time with each other. Thanksgiving means something different to everyone. For Kendall, it’s being thankful.
“Thanksgiving is being thankful for what you have, and expressing it by spending time with those people,” Kendall said.
Avery Huebbe (11) will be spending time with her family while enjoying her favorite baked macaroni and cheese this upcoming Thanksgiving day. Huebbe explains the other variety of food her family makes.
“We normally have sweet potato casserole, rolls, green bean casserole, turkey, and pumpkin pie,” Huebbe said.
While food is a beloved part of Thanksgiving, something even more special is traditions, and for Huebbe, it’s pulling the wishbone apart each year.
Huebbe has her own definition of Thanksgiving, “Obviously there is a lot of food, but I think the purpose of it is to gather everyone together,” she explained.
Thanksgiving might only be one day a year. But it’s a day filled with unforgettable laughter and joy. A day full of memories. So tell stories, make jokes, and be with the people you love the most.
