The seniors were celebrated in a variety of ways throughout the final home game of the season on Feb. 27.
Before the game, poster boards covered with pictures of the players were displayed in the entrance. The girls team all wore matching shirts with the seniors’ names listed on them.
The main event for the seniors was when they walked across the gym. Their names were announced along with their favorite memory from their season. After the entire team had walked, they were presented with framed jerseys.
The best way to have ended senior night was with the scores from the games.
The girls team beat the Panthers 55-30 and the boys beat them 59-56 during the final home games of the regular season.
The girls team stayed ahead of the Panthers for the entire game, ending their regular season with another victory.
The boys game remained close throughout all four quarters with them taking the lead in the last minute of the game.
As soon as the buzzer sounded, the entire student section stormed the court, celebrating the momentous victory with the players.
“The three [girls] seniors are four-year players, which is pretty incredible because usually people in any sport don’t play all four years,” girls basketball coach Joseph Walterbach said. “Ainsley played varsity for all four years, and the other two played for about two and a half. My favorite memory of them was just being able to watch them grow.”
“The seniors were a fun group to work with. My favorite memory was when the won the GAC tournament freshman year, and they were a part of a 10-0 perfect GAC South Conference record year,” boys basketball coach William Sodemann said.
