It’s not about how you got there, it’s about you being there right now. Everyone starts somewhere, but what matters most is your dedication and consistency.
It all started when I woke up on a September morning and I looked in the mirror knowing that there was a better version of myself to accomplish. This was the day after I got back from the hospital after getting diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. I know what it’s like to have unhealthy food habits, no motivation, and struggling to be consistent. But that’s just the first step into becoming the person you want to be physically and mentally. I was tired of looking in the mirror and hating the way I looked.
I’ve done it all the time while being tired.
Packed with homework, work, family issues, break ups, basically all of the obstacles that may put you down to just want to lay in your bed and just be sad about things. That is the kind of mindset that has changed so dearly for me.
It’s only a phase because once I got past that phase the gym started becoming a part of my life, the most important part of my life. Once I learned how to push myself and motivate myself was when true growth started.
Even though I have come very far with my gym journey, there are still many struggles that accompany me. Those first two weeks when you first start going, will be the hardest to stay consistent but during that two week period is when you need to have the best positive attitude possible. The days you don’t want to go are the days you need it the most. Once you have accomplished this stage is when all of the real commitment and peace of mind comes to you.
For me, I hit all muscle groups including back, biceps, triceps, quads, calves, and glutes. It is really all about your workout split, which is how you split up your muscle groups throughout the week. I recently did research on creatine and started taking it about two weeks ago but I recently stopped taking it. Creatine moves all of your water weight to your muscles so you can gain more muscle mass. It surely did make me bloated for a while but you have to take it everyday.
As a 16-year-old I took about 5mg a day. If you do not take this supplement everyday even if you don’t workout that day it will not be effective.

Some people may find the gym boring but you are only going to get as much out of it as you put in. For example, your diet. Some people may think that you have to cut junk food completely out of your life but that is nowhere near true. I have a good diet which is how I’ve seen the most progress I’ve wanted to see in the past six months but I didn’t completely cut out all junk food. Every now and then I have a cheat day where I will go get starbucks or pizza. But it is all about balance and beating those mental complications with your unhealthy cravings 24/7. Unhealthy habits tend to put a big strain on your progress.
Knowing that it is hard to get out of those habits is possible. There are all kinds of foods that taste good but are still the healthier options. But you have to be willing to commit yourself.
As a teenage girl I know what it’s like to want more out of life, more to live for, wanting to be happier, and wanting to be healthier. By committing myself and focusing these past six months has changed me a lot as a person including my maturity. When you stay consistent with something, really anything in life you will see progress, you will feel better about life, and you will be happier. But it is all up to you and how you want to continue to live your life.
