New year, new start, new chance to become who you want to be. Each year we get the opportunity to start the year with a clean slate. We get the chance to make new friends, try new things, and be a better version of ourselves.
ELA teacher Mr. Schaper has shared his overall proud moments and big accomplishments throughout the year. While Schaper shares he had a couple of big accomplishments through the year, one ultimately outdid the rest.
“Becoming a father to my daughter Sloane,” Schaper expressed. With accomplishments comes proud moments. For Schaper, that’s his students becoming successful.
“I was really proud of how my students last school year did on the AP lit exam,” he said. “It was my first year teaching it and they did very well. They were like a whole, nearly an entire point higher than the average in the state of Missouri.”
Schaper’s year has been filled with great memories and good times. So, to continue these good times, Schaper has decided that his new year’s resolution will be to disconnect from the internet and live in the moment.
Aly Darks (9) has had some big moments throughout the year. A big accomplishment for Darks would be making the freshman cheer team. While Darks has many proud moments through the year, there’s one in particular that stands out.
“My dance team got first place at Spotlight Dance Cup for one of our group dances called ‘Shades of Blue,’” Darks explained. With all of this excitement and joy through this year, Darks has set many goals to continue accomplishing big things. So for Darks, her new year’s resolution is getting her middle and right split for dance, as well as stretching her splits everyday.
Caroline Zamora (9) has made all sorts of accomplishments throughout the whole year. Some small, some big, but all worth celebrating. Zamora shared what those moments are for her.
“Making new friends and consistently keeping good grades and turning in work on time,” Zamora said. With accomplishments comes proud moments, and Zamora expressed many different moments, but ultimately decided one of her proudest moments was while working concessions.
“My proudest moment would have to be not getting nervous when I’m working the cash register in concessions. Zamora decided that her new year’s resolution would be improving her habits.
Lily Redecker (9) has had some memorable moments through the year. Some being accomplishments, some are inspiring moments. But all being important. Redecker explains her biggest accomplishment.
“My biggest accomplishment would have to be maintaining good grades,” Redecker said. With that, comes proud moments, for redecker its attendance. “A proud moment would have to be not missing many days of school,” Redecker said.
Since a new year is around the corner, Redecker has already made her New Year’s resolutions. Redecker expressed how she would like to pass her permit test and continue down the path of good grades.
