Loukya Vaka is a determined senior that aspires to help as many families as she can through family medicine. Vaka is a very involved student, from her multiple clubs, to her out of school activities.
“I shadowed at SSM behind a pediatrician,” Vaka said. She continues to explain how this opportunity gave her a chance to work with a variety of kids with different medical problems.
Vaka expressed how in third grade she faced challenges when learning in math she would constantly count on her fingers when she was not supposed to. She continued to explain how she was too scared to ask for help, leading her to count on her fingers in secret. She shared how something similar happened in her anatomy and physiology class this year.
At first, she did not quite understand everything. Vaka continued to explain how this was an important class for her future in family medicine, causing her to be hard on herself. She expressed how she was reluctant to ask for help. Vaka later realized that the help she could receive was achievable if she asked her teacher, Mrs Meuser.
