The things that surround us often shape us into the versions of ourselves that we are today. For Ella Quinney, those things consist of baking, movies, reading, and music– creative hobbies that shaped her into the person she is.
When she was 8 years old, Quinney began her work in her home kitchen, where her love of baking began. She recalls her mother, who was an in-home baker, inspiring her to approach the counter. While at the time she couldn’t reach the microwave, she could still reach her dream of having chocolate chip cookies with the help of her mom, and since that day her love of baking has flourished. She now bakes when she is stressed, happy, anxious – it’s an activity that relaxes and calms her.
In addition to her love for baking, Quinney is inspired by observing the people around her.
“I always like watching people. Movies and TV is a good way to do that. Theater, too. Even though it’s performing and not them being themselves, a good movie or book shows how people think and act. You learn more about people in general,” Quinney said. “And I always loved the saying, ‘You are a mosaic of every person you’ve known before.’”
With the example of Quinney picking up her love of baking from her mom, it’s clear her life is an example of this. A mosaic of the people she has known, her own person. Inspired by the world of people around her.
