Several years ago when sitting in math class, track coach Toby Glavin inquired about Cayden Schultz joining the track team. However, at the time Schultz was playing baseball, so he did not plan on joining the track team. Glavin made a deal with Schultz that if he didn’t make the baseball team he would join track. Not knowing he was about to discover a new hobby turned life long passion, Schultz agreed to Glavin’s terms.
“I didn’t really like it, and it was really hard at first. However, as time went on I began to like it. Thanks to the support from the team and, from Coach Glavin,” Schultz said.
Even after the struggle at the beginning of freshman year, Schultz has not turned back, sticking to the sport throughout high school.
With Schultz being a senior, he is expected to lead the underclassmen and, become like a second coach. He has always told the underclassman that the effort you put into track is what you will get out of it.
This shows a perfect example of trying new things and, how something not going your way can open up a whole new opportunity and, show more options. Even though he will not be running in college, he plans to continue to do it as a hobby.
