Although the Eagles varsity baseball team is improving everyday, Fort Zumwalt West was able to beat them twice in a row. For baseball conference games, they play the same team twice in a row, once on Tuesday, and once on Wednesday, and one at home and one away. On April 14, the Eagles lost 2-0 and on April 15, they lost 8-7.
As stated on High School Sports Illustrated, Zumwalt West is one of the top schools in Missouri ranked number five.
“They are a top 10 team in the state, so we knew it was going to be a good game,” James Good (10) said. Even though the Eagles lost, they were still proud that they were only one point away from tying with them.
In the second game, the Eagles did a lot better than the first. They came out strong with scoring four runs in the first inning and Zumwalt West scoring 0. But in the second and third inning, Zumwalt West scored five runs, coming back.
The Eagles were still cheering on their team the whole time, even when they were losing. The varsity baseball team is one of the loudest teams, always supporting their teammates.
In the past Zumwalt West has beaten the Eagles in baseball before and they were a bit disappointed that they couldn’t earn their respect. The varsity Eagles haven’t beat the Jaguars since 2019, at a Troy Tournament in March.
“I just wanted to even up the series and try to gain some bragging rights from last year because we got beat by them pretty bad both times we played them, so I just wanted a little bit of respect,” Seagar Gipson (11) said.
Before the second game, Coach Reeder got an award for his 150th career win as a coach in a victory against Parkway West with a score of 8-6.
So far the Eagles have a record of 8-8, with many games to go and are excited for the rest of the season.
