In the long-awaited homecoming game, the Eagles varsity football team went head-to-head with the Roosevelt’s Rough Riders on Sept. 15. The Eagles held a big lead until the very end when the Rough Riders were ultimately mercied 41-8. The Eagles won their third game of the season to improve to 3-1 on the year.

“I love when Liberty wins,” said senior Kaden Abe while on the sidelines.

As the game began, Roosevelt won the coin toss and the game officially started. Shortly after, sophomore Caiden Galati scored the first touchdown, and junior Cody McMullen made the extra point. And within the next few minutes, Galati scored another touchdown, and again McMullen added the extra point. Thus ending the first quarter with the total being 14-0.

“I was super confident coming into this game,” McMullen said.

The Eagles offense erupted for four touchdowns in the second quarter by four different players: senior Noah Kuehner, senior Marquis Williams, Cody McMullen and a 40-yard punt return by senior Austin Steenbeke. That score gave the Eagles a commanding 41-0 lead in front of a spirited red-out crowd.

“My job was to hype up the crowd and I think that I did good at that,” said junior Iker Cuevas Maulian.

During halftime, the homecoming court was introduced and seniors Kaden Kargacin and Reese Douglas were crowned the homecoming king and queen. Then, cheer performed followed by dance. Wrapping up the halftime show was the Eagle Regiment and color guard performing “If Only I Had A Heart.”

The third quarter was anticlimactic, but during the final quarter with an attempt to decrease the gap, Roosevelt scored their first touchdown of the game, immediately followed by a two-point conversion making the score 41-8. As the game came to a close the Eagles mercied the Rough Riders bringing home yet another game win.
