The Eagles kept their winning ways going on Feb. 20 and advanced to the Founders Cup championship after defeating John Burroughs 4-2.
This was the deciding game for the round against John Burroughs. Liberty won the first game of the round, so they needed to win or tie the game to advance. Luckily, the Eagles pulled through with the win, advancing to the final game, the championship. This game is Tuesday, Feb. 25 at 8:30 p.m. against Fort Zumwalt East. The game is being held at Affton Ice Rink.
“The team played a really good game, except we were getting a little fancy with it, like, not moving it enough, but I think we played a really good game overall,” Cam Winkler (10) siad.
In the first period, Liberty opened the scoring with the only goal of the period. At 4:26 Zach Pruss (11) got an unassisted goal. There were no penalties given this period.
To open the second period, John Burroughs scored at 12:57. At 12:06, Nicholas Kuhn (10) got a goal, assisted by Greyson Howarth (11). At 10:28, John Burroughs got a 2-minute minor penalty for holding. On the power play, Connor Casella (10) scored the game-winning goal for Liberty, with the assist going to Lucas Kempf (11).

“The team played pretty good,” Mason Nickler (9) said. “We need to get stronger on defense probably.”
At the beginning of the third, Garrett Katz (10) got a 2-minute minor penalty for cross-checking. On the power play, John Burroughs got a goal at 11:15. At 10:31 John Burroughs got a 2-minute minor for slashing. Following that, Jude Bill (11) got a 2-minute minor penalty for hooking at 5:54. At 3:20, being down 3-2, John Burroughs pulled their goalie. At 1:33, Dylan Handlan (12) scored an empty net goal, with the assist going to Pruss.
Liberty’s record in the playoffs is now 6-1-0 heading into Tuesday’s title game.
