Friday night’s game was a nail-biter from start to finish, with both teams leaving everything on the field. In a high-scoring showdown that came down to the very last second, the Eagles fell just short, losing 51-48 against the undefeated North Point Grizzlies. Though the scoreboard showed a loss, which was the first of the season for the Eagles, the energy on the field reflected determination, grit, and growth.
The mindset going into the game was clear: strengthen the defense.
“We did alright, but we need to execute better. The execution was mediocre, but it could have been great,” Van Kozlowski (12) said. Despite the defensive struggles, the Eagles showed relentless fight until the end.
Grizzlies kicker Landon Manco (11) connected on a 30-yard field goal to break a 48-48 tie with 12 seconds left in the game, which proved to be the game-winning score. Quarterback Ta’Vren Williams (11) passed for six touchdowns as the Grizzlies’ offense couldn’t be stopped.

The offensive highlight of the night for the Eagles came from star running back Jalen Mack (12), who put on a powerhouse performance. Mack carried the team with four touchdowns, electrifying the crowd and giving fans hope throughout the game. His success was made possible by the Eagles’ offensive line, who held strong under pressure and opened key gaps against the Grizzlies’ defense.
The crowd also played its role. From the honorary “frat guys” in the stands to the student section roaring, backwards cap and all, the energy was infectious. The support in the bleachers matched the fight on the field, creating a Friday night atmosphere that felt unforgettable.
More than anything, this game was about teamwork and sportsmanship. Even in moments of frustration, the Eagles and Grizzlies stood together, even if they were across from each other. High fives, encouragement after fumbles, and mutual respect from both sides reflected the true spirit of football. It wasn’t just about winning — it was about showing heart.
“It was a hard loss,” Logan Shuster (12) said. “This game decided which team would be leading in the district. Both teams fought their hardest, but every game has to have a winner and a loser.”
From the prayer on the ball and the heartbeat of the game, our team needed this victory. Losing only made the next game more likely to be a win.
“I’m more anticipating the next game,” Grady McGinnis (11) said. The Eagles (3-1) host Zumwalt North (3-1) on Friday at The Nest.
Despite the heartbreaking finish, the Eagles proved they are contenders. With explosive plays, resilient spirit, and a growing bond as a team, they showed that while the scoreboard told one story, the future of Eagles football is bright.
