Recently the boys varsity soccer team has not been looking good, but today they showed they are back in the game and ready for GACs. On Sept. 20, they tied against Francis Howell, on Sept. 25 they lost against Fort Zumwalt West 3-2 in overtime, and on Sept. 27 they lost 2-1 against St. Dominic. The last time the Eagles won was on Sept. 18 against Troy Buchanan 3-0.
With all of these losses, the Eagles were hungry for a win and showed their potential, beating Timberland 2-0 Thursday night.
“This win lifts us up,” Tyler Meier (12) said.
“This gives us the momentum going into the next three games,” Corey Lynch (12) said.
Thursday night was also Prairie View night and there were many kids walking out with the players and they all had big smiles on their faces.
The first half of the game no goals were scored making it a pretty even match. During the second half around 6 or 7 yellow cards were given to players on the Timberland team and only one given to one of the Eagles, Gabe Kahrhoff (12).
One of the fouls that Timberland had next to the box resulted in Meier taking a free kick and Gavin Moyers (12) scoring a goal.
“My favorite play was probably me whipping it in,” Moyers said.
The other goal the Eagles made was also in the second half, headed by Lynch. Everybody on the team thought Ayden Davis (11) got the header but he admitted it didn’t touch his head and it was Lynch’s goal.
Next week both JV and varsity start GACs and the Eagles are prepared. They play Warrenton first on Oct. 7, then Francis Howell North on Oct. 9. The following week they play North Point on Oct. 14, and to finish the tournament they play St. Charles at the Nest on Oct. 16.
“I think we will do well, we just need to keep doing what we’re doing and peaking at the right time,” coach Luedecke said.
The Eagles are excited after this uplifting win and ready to win GACs.
