Other than districts, GACS is one of the most important tournaments for soccer. The boys varsity soccer team won their first match against Warrenton 9-1, and now they’ve won against Francis Howell North, 4-2.
Earlier in the season they already played Howell North and beat them 4-1. Howell North has stepped up their game by getting one more goal this time, but they are still no match against the Eagles.
During school the Eagles wore pink jerseys for breast cancer awareness month and were planning on wearing them to the game, but Howell North decided they were going to wear pink jerseys so we had to switch to our white jerseys. Coach Luedecke does still want to wear our pink jerseys for another game this month.
Before the varsity boys played, the JV boys played their game vs Howell North. Unfortunately for the Eagles, we lost 2-1 against their JV team.
The varsity boys got there at the second half of the game and knew they had to get our win back against them.
For Ayden Davis (11), he especially wanted to win because for his sophomore year he played on the Howell North soccer team. He loved seeing all his old teammates and getting to play against them.
“It feels good playing my old school but I wish I would have got a goal,” Davis said. “I loved seeing all my old teammates.”
At the very beginning of the game the Howell North goalkeeper got hurt and had to sit out the first half but later came back for the second. Because of this Howell North had to use one of their players that is not a goalkeeper for the first half.
No goals were scored in the beginning of the game, making it a pretty even match to start off. Near the middle of the first half Gavin Moyers (12) got a great pass to Brenden Lukunka (12) and we scored the first goal.
The Eagles got their spirit lifted up from scoring the first goal and had the energy to score another goal with another pass from Moyers to Corey Lynch (12).
At the beginning of the second half Howell North scored a goal in the first few minutes of the half.
The Eagles were disappointed but immediately after kick off they got the ball up and James Naphakorn (11) passed to Lynch and they were very excited.
Howell North was able to score another goal, making their team uplifted that they could make a comeback.
The Eagles did not want the score to be so close, so they worked hard to score another goal by Moyers.
Howell North was not able to score any more goals and we won the match continuing our streak against them and in GACS.
Every soccer team always makes mistakes and for the Eagles it is marking players.
“We need to work on marking, it’s marking every game,” Austin Kelly (12) said.
Kelly is the goalkeeper for the Eagles and watches the whole field while he’s playing. Kelly cares about this team a lot and just wants the team to fix little mistakes that he knows they make.
This win was very uplifting for the team, getting them ready for the next GACS match against North Point on Oct. 14.
